Ink on Deer drum skin, wood support
(13” diameter x2”)
Remembrance underlines the importance that rhythm and repetition play on our lives at every level, from the depths of our very biology to the most mundane aspects of our everyday routines. I pay extra attention to the selection of my materials, taking into consideration their symbolic load and an important part of this piece rest in the fact that it is a retired drum skin undergoing a second life so to speak but retaining in a way all of its former experiences as a musical instrument, a dimension that underlies its present function. My art practice is my way to integrate and metabolize concepts that Im working with, in this case the inspiration came from my study of breathing as a form of meditation and path towards inner growth.
